Quesnel City Council have approved a contractor, and a budget increase, for their Fire Hall Number 1 renovation project.
Despite early interest, only one bid for the contract was received, with the contract subsequently awarded to Fresno Construction Limited.
Initially, the project price tag was set at $4.5 million, with $2.5 million coming from the Covid-19 Resilience Infrastructure Fund.
But, due to recent cost inflation, that original estimate will no longer be enough.
During their regular meeting on Tuesday, Council voted to increase the price tag to $5 million, with the City’s portion coming from their Capital Reinvestment Reserve.
Currently, the Fire Hall is operating out of the old Public Works Yard beside the Johnston Bridge, with renovations planned to be completed early next year.
