For the second month in a row, BC saw a decrease in the number of lives lost to illicit drug overdoses in March.
But, with a total of 165 toxic overdose deaths across the month, it is also the 18th straight month with more than 150 deaths.
Northern Health saw the fewest deaths of any health authority in March with 8, 4 in the Northwest, according to preliminary data.
On the year, however, Northern Health still has the highest rate of overdose deaths at 52.3 per 100,000 people.
Fentanyl and its analogues were detected in 94 percent of returned samples, and benzodiazepines in 32 percent.
