Central Chilcotin Rehabilitation is launching a pilot program to re-seed forests in the Chilcotin Plateau, using drones.
With support from the Forest Enhancement Society of BC, the project will see roughly 52 hectares of forest devastated by the 2017 wildfire season re-seeded.
Drones will carry seeds embedded in a small vessel along with soil and nutrients to help the seeds grow.
Rough terrain makes it difficult for humans to reach some areas of the plateau, but the use of drones will help compliment standard methods in a less expensive and time-consuming way.
In addition, more than 50,000 seedlings provided by CCR will be used for interplanting in other burned areas next year.
CCR is a joint partnership between the Tl’etinqox and Tsi Del Del First Nations.
