Northerners are looking at more weather warnings today, though not the kind we’ve become used to recently.
Inland sections of the North Coast, including Stewart, Laxgalts’ap, Gitwinksihlkw, Kitimat, Terrace, Highways 16 and 37 are under a rainfall warning.
Heavy downpours are expected to persist through the evening, with rainfall of up to 70 mms expected in some areas.
Lower Post, portions of Highway 37 North, and the Peace Region are also expecting extreme winds.
Environment Canada is warning of winds gusting up to 90 km/h through to tomorrow morning.
On the roads, Highway 37A is closed between Stewart and Meziadin at the Pearly Gates and Surprise Pullout, due to high avalanche risks.
Some warnings have also been issued for water pooling in parts of Highway 16, particularly between Prince Rupert and Terrace, where puddles of up to 2 inches have been reported.
