A locally-produced documentary focusing on the revitalization of Indigenous culture, is coming home to the North.
Co-written by filmmaker Matt Smiley, and Carrier Sekani Child and Family Services Executive Director Mary Teegee the film is titled “For Love”.
Shot across Canada, the film seeks to illuminate the links between residential schools, and the overrepresentation of Indigenous children in the child welfare system.
Next Monday, or Valentine’s Day, the film will be shown on the tenth anniverary of “Have a Heart Day”, a youth-led reconciliation movement.
It will run at 7:00 in the evening at the Parkwood Mall Cineplex in Prince George, with a portion of the proceeds going to Have a Heart Day activities.
“For Love” is narrated by singer Shania Twain, and features Indigenous advocate Cindy Blackstock as a producer.
