While British Columbia as a whole saw a fairly sizable gain in population since 2016, the Northwest stayed relatively level.
As a whole, the province’s population grew by 7.6 percent from 5 years ago, to 5,000,879, according to the 2021 Census.
On the north coast and Haida Gwaii, covered in the Skeena-Queen Charlotte census division, population grew by 0.3 percent to 18,181.
In the Kitimat-Stikine division, population grew by 1.1 percent to 37,790.
And the Bulkley-Nechako division actually saw a drop in population of 0.4 percent, falling to 37,737.
In Terrace specifically, population grew by 3.2 percent, to 12,017.
