Both the province and Canada are providing funding for the Stó:lo Nation to undertake research and commemoration activities at three former Residential School sites.
Today, the parties announced funding of just over two million dollars to the Nation’s Xyólhmet ye Syéwiqwélh, or taking care of our children, program.
That program will cover activities at the sites of the former Coqualeetza, St. Mary’s, and All Hallows Residential Schools.
In addition, the Nation will work with communities on their territory to develop a Lost Stó:lo Children Registry, and host engagement sessions and ceremonies to honour children who attended the Schools.
The community-led process will ensure the Nation can undertake the work at their own pace and in their own way.
