Quesnel’s Mayor Bob Simpson sent out a statement earlier today attempting to clear up misconceptions about the vaccine mandate for city Councillors.
Quesnel’s corporate vaccine policy does not cover Council members since they are not officially employed by the city.
However, Councillors still need to show their proof of vaccination in order to access any public buildings or programs that require people to reveal their vaccination status.
Council members also need to follow social distancing rules and wear masks at council meetings aside from when they are sitting at their plexiglass protected seats.
The main reason that Councillors are exempt from the corporate vaccine policy is so any citizen can run for office in Quesnel’s municipal election in the Fall.
