Canada’s third largest port is set to grow even larger in 2022, with the advancement of a number of key infrastructure projects.
DP World Canada and the Prince Rupert Port Authority announced today that the first stage of their Fairview Container Terminal expansion is now half-way done.
They expect the first phase to be completed in July, increasing capacity to 1.6 million Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units.
By late 2024, that capacity is expected to increase to 1.8 million TEUs, with the completion of the expansion project’s next stage.
That expansion alone will bring 300 new full-time equivalent jobs to the region, with a priority to hire local and Indigenous.
In addition to the terminal expansion, the Port is expecting to see the completion of the Fairview-Ridley Connector corridor in quarter 2 of this year.
Plans to bring a state-of-the-art export logistics facility to the Port are also in advance stages, and will allow export opportunities for more commodities.
An export logistics facility being built in partnership with the Metlakatla Development Corporation, will allow the Port’s innovative logistics hub to further grow.
