Property tax rates are set to go up in the District of Kitimat, as budget discussions for 2022 continue.
During their regular meeting on Monday, Council directed staff to draft 2022 budget with a tax increase of 3.75 percent, slightly less than the 4 percent initially proposed.
In 2021, the District, which operates on a residential flat tax system, saw a 3.25 percent tax increase.
Annual refuse pick up rates have also gone up, from 120 dollars last year, to 146 dollars this year.
Council was also presented with a plan to raise water rates from 144 dollars to 164 dollars annually.
However, Council opted to defer consideration of a water rate increase until after they are presented with the Water Conservation Plan.
