A recently imposed vaccination mandate has resulted in 89 Volunteer Fire Fighters leaving departments in the Cariboo.
Early last month, the Cariboo Regional District passed a mandate requiring all employees, including volunteer fire fighters, to get vaccinated against Covid-19.
Part of that mandate required all employees to disclose their vaccination status by January 17th.
Most fire fighters in the region accepted the mandate, though strong vocal opposition was levied from some in the community.
As of today, the Region now has a total of 285 volunteer fire fighters on their active roster, down from 374 pre-mandate.
Kersley saw the biggest drop, with their department’s roster going from 36 to 11.
Forest Grove lost 13 active volunteers, Lone Butte dropped 9, and the Interlakes VFD lost 8 active members.
