A pair of First Nations in the Prince George area have come together to improve Indigenous education in the community.
In June of last year, a special advisors report was released confirming the existence of anti-Indigenous systemic racism in the Prince George School District.
That report brought forward 40 recommendations after hearing numerous examples of racist practices and behaviours in the District.
Now, the McLeod Lake Indian Band, and the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation, have come together to form an Indigenous Education Leadership Table.
This comes a week after Cowichan Tribes became the fourth First Nation in BC to ratify an agreement, allowing them to take control of education in their territory.
More than a dozen other Nations are currently involved in discussions with Ottawa to ratify agreements.
