Residents of a 16-unit apartment building which caught fire in Prince Rupert on Wednesday still have no idea when they can return.
Just before 7:00 Tuesday night, fire crews were called out to the blaze at the Angus Apartments on Second Avenue West.
A fire which had broken out on the main floor resulted in damage to two of the units, and electricity, heat, and water had to be disconnected.
With the building temporarily uninhabitable, occupants have been staying at a nearby hotel, though that offer expires tonight.
But it isn’t the first issue for many tenants of the building, which has received two fines from the BC Residential Tenancy Branch since 2020.
Said fines cited a “pattern of neglect and disregard for maintaining the legal health, safety, and housing standards of the property”.
In a report from last month, the Branch says the landlords “jeopardized the safety of tenants”.
