One of the country’s most prominent Indigenous health leaders has received one of the country’s highest honours.
Dr Margo Greenwood has been appointed as an Officer of the Order of Canada in recognition of her 3 decades of work to transform the health and well-being of Indigenous youth.
Dr. Greenwood has been Northern Health’s Vice President of Indigenous Health since 2013, and serves as a First Nations Studies professor at UNBC.
In addition, she serves as the Academic Leader of the National Collaborating Centre for Indigenous Health at the University.
Born in Alberta of Cree descent, Dr Greenwood currently resides in Vernon, and is a member of the Institute of Population and Public Health Advisory Board.
Dr Greenwood has published more than 135 publications on Indigenous health and well-being.
Former Senate member, lawyer, and Truth and Reconciliation Commission chairman, Murray Sinclair, was also named as a Companion of the Order, an even higher honour.
In total, 135 individuals were added to the Order this year, with Sinclair one of only two Companions.
