A Specific Claim has been filed by the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation regarding their original village site.
In the Fall of 1913, the village was sold, and the remaining members of the Nation forced to leave their village.
Now, the Nation has filed a Specific Claim over the area, which was located where the Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park now stands.
Specific Claims deal with past wrongs committed against First Nations, and can relate to land and asset administration, and fulfillment of treaties and other agreements.
Ottawa will work with the Nation to resolve the claim, with out-of-court settlement solutions still on the table, in a process expected to take around 2 years.
