A partnership between the Ts^ilhqot’in National Government and the Williams Lake First Nation appears to be coming to an end.
In a release from this morning, the TNG says they will no longer be partnering with the other Nation on a cultural awareness project.
The TNG cited their former partner’s objection to the use of other languages on the Williams Lake government building welcome sign, as the reason for the withdrawal.
According to the release, the Nation backed the use of their own Secwepmec language on the sign, but objected to it featuring the Ts^ilhqot’in and Dakelh languages.
But the TNG says they recognize the importance of the partnership, and hope the Williams Lake First Nation reconsiders their objections.
