A recent uptick in salmon poaching has caused the DFO to issue warnings to residents near salmon populated streams.
Reports of poachers using nets to catch the fish in creeks and rivers across BC come from as recently as last month.
The most recent reports come from tributaries of the Coquitlam River, but officials are warning those living near all salmon populated waterways to be on the look out.
If an individual is caught salmon poaching illegally, violation tickets can range from 575 dollars to as much as 100 thousand dollars.
