A 100 year-old bridge near Telkwa is set to be replaced, despite public demand for a repair instead.
The Quick Bridge spans across the Bulkley River and connects the community of Quick with the remainder of Telkwa, but was closed this summer.
It was later reopened to foot traffic only, but remains inadequate for heavier loads.
Now, the bridge is scheduled to be replaced, but with no firm date established, it isn’t expected until next spring.
This forms a problem for residents of Quick, for whom the Bridge is the only logical access to the rest of the community.
Some residents are calling for a cheaper, quicker, repair of the bridge to allow faster access.
But the Ministry of Transportation says that is impractical, as the wood made to build the structure would continue to decay post-repair.
