UBCIC Grand Chief Stewart Phillip is dumbfounded by recent comments made by the Prime Minister over Residential School records.
During his visit with the Tkâemlups te Sepwepemc earlier in the month, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said all Federal Records from the System had already been turned over.
However, the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation says they are still waiting on a number of documents.
Now, Grand Chief Phillip is calling for the PM to resign if he still “has a shred of honour” remaining.
According to the Grand Chief, Trudeau’s time in office has been filled with a litany of broken promises, empty commitment, and meaningless apologies, despite declaring that Indigenous People were a top priority.
A spokesperson from the PM’s office says they have handed over all the records to the best of their knowledge, but will do everything they can to make them available if that is not the case.
