A Walkathon in Burnaby this week is looking to raise money for two oppressed and exploited groups from opposite ends of the world.
This Sunday’s walk, titled “Tk’emlúps to Gaza”, aims to raise 20 to 30 thousand dollars, with proceeds being split fifty-fifty between two programs.
The first is the Indian Residential School Survivors’ Society, who provides mental health supports and counselling for survivors of the tragedy.
On the other side of the world, the International Development Relief Foundation’s program to support children in need of education in Gaza, will take home the other half.
The walks will start at 10:00 in the morning, and is expected to wrap up around 2:00, with a community event at the Burnaby Education Centre to follow.
