Three residents of the North are among six to be honoured with the Fulmer Award in First Nations Art this year.
Each year the award is handed out by the BC Achievement Foundation to honour the province’s exemplary Indigenous artists.
One such award went to Sgaanjaad (An-jaat) Sherri Dick, a traditional Chilkat and Raven’s Tail weaver of Haida and Kootenay ancestry, who currently lives in Masset.
Prince George resident Crystal Behn, of Dene and Carrier descent, was given the Emerging Artists award for her unique, customizable, beadwork.
And Terrace resident Stan Bevan took home the Award of Distinction for Lifetime Achievement.
Bevan, who is of Tahltan-Tlingit and Tsimshian descent, is recognized for his attention to detail and innovation.
Bevan has an extensive body of work and is credited with helping to assist in a revival of Tlingit art.
