BC Assembly of First Nations Regional Chief Terry Teegee is calling today’s election results a win for Indigenous people, though not in the usual way.
In a statement issued this morning, Teegee touted not the Liberal aspect of the government, but the minority aspect.
Teegee says that having a minority government forces the parties to work together, enabling Indigenous people to push for real gains.
He also says the Assembly will continue to push Trudeau’s government toward implementing all calls to action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, as well as aligning laws with UNDRIP, and implementing the National Action Plan on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.
