BC`s Environmental Appeals Board has upheld a fine issued to Imperial Metals over a Williams Lake based mine.
In 2014, Imperial Metals was given permission to release wastewater from their Mount Polley mine in to Quesnel Lake.
This permission was granted on a temporary basis following the collapse of a nearby tailings pond.
However, according to the Board, Imperial Metals was supposed to develop a better treatment plan as part of that permit.
But after failing to do so over a more than two year period, the Mine was issued a 9 thousand dollar fine.
Now, the Board has dismissed an appeal made by the Company, saying their failure to comply undermined their ability to protect the environment.
