ICBC has sent out a message to all those who happen to be driving their kids to school in the Cariboo Chilcotin region on a regular basis, since the cariboo roads will likely be a bit busier with both kids and teachers returning to school.
The message is asking for the drivers to leave to a little bit early, keep their focus on the road and be weary of children, especially when driving in school zones.
Five kids are killed and 370 are injured in car related accidents in BC on a yearly average. And in School zones and playgrounds alone, 66 kids a year get injured in car related crashes.
Over 6,940 drivers got speeding tickets in school zones back in 2020. And in order to stop potential speeders, B.C. Police and speed watch volunteers are going to be monitoring drivers in school zones in order to make sure children get to school safely.
