The Barkerville Historic Town and Park is giving both credit and thanks to the Barkerville Gold Mine for making sure that the program could still run during this 2021 season.
The park stated in a news release that Osisko Development, the parent company, of the mine, donated $500,000 to the park’s funds.
Chris Lodder, the president of Osisko Development along with being a member of the Barkerville Trust, responded by saying that he was just happy to give support to his friends and neighbours.
The province of BC are the ones that actually own the park but the Barkerville Heritage Trust are the ones that take care of the park’s operations.
After the park sent out a claim that they had a funding shortfall of over $600,000, the BC liberals directed some criticism at the NDP for not giving funds to the park even though the province said the park didn’t qualify for funding.
