Starting this Friday at noon, campfires are no longer going to be banned throughout the Cariboo Fire centre.
Despite the fire danger rating going down significantly as of late thanks to rainy days and cooler temperatures, the public is still being encouraged to be cautious when using a campfire.
The definition of a campfire is a fire that is no bigger than 0.5 m high by 0.5m wide that is used by someone for recreational purposes, or by an Indigenous person for a ceremonial purpose.
But even with the campfires being made OK yet again, the Region also made it known that category 2 and 3 open fires, which are fires that are larger than 0.5 m high by 0.5 m wide, are still not allowed.
Anyone who is found violating this ban could get a ticket for $1,150 or have to pay an administrative penalty that could go up to $10,000 or if a court conviction is laid down, receive a $100,000 fine and potentially get sentenced to a year in jail.
