The union representing over 30-thousand education workers in B-C public schools says it’s time to bring back daytime custodians to keep schools clean as students head back to class in September.
The president of CUPE B-C says the use of daytime custodians during the pandemic was very positive and “a major part” of the success public schools reported in preventing the spread of COVID-19 between students and into the community.
CUPE also wants masks made mandatory for staff and students in all school settings including classrooms and buses.
A statement from the union says additional measures should include use of the latest provincial health guidelines on COVID-19 throughout the new school year, as well as properly working ventilation systems in schools and budgets showing infrastructure improvements are coming.
