Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau, and NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh, both made announcements on the campaign trail in BC yesterday.
Incumbent PM Trudeau was in Vancouver, where he promised to create community-based forces to fight wildfires.
According to Trudeau, the plan would see his government invest in training and equipment for one thousand new firefighters.
The Liberal Leader says the act would help fight the impacts of climate change, which was met with mixed reactions.
Meanwhile, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh continued his Burnaby tour, proposing a 20 percent foreign homebuyers’ tax.
The tax is another effort to dissuade foreign corporations from purchasing up urban properties.
He also promised his government would invest in half a million affordable homes in 10 years.
While the other two major Federal Leaders haven’t touched down in BC yet, that doesn’t mean they haven’t been busy.
Green Party Leader Annamie Paul has been advocating for a complete overhaul of how we view affordable housing.
While they have yet to release an official platform, similarly to the NDP, the Greens are also proposing stricter measures against foreign homebuyers.
Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole has not remained silent on the affordable housing issue either.
O’Toole plans to build one million homes over three years by converting government owned property in to housing.
When it comes to foreign investors, O’Toole plans to bar all not living in Canada from purchasing a home for 2 years.
He also plans to create and Indigenous Housing Plan.
