The federal government once again announced back on Friday that more than $17.3 million will be given to four different projects in order to bring high-speed Internet to over 2,000 homes in the Cariboo regional district as well as in the Indigenous communities of the Thompson-Nicola Regional District.
The funding will come from the Universal Broadband Fund, which was launched back in November of last year. The projects that were announced back on Saturday were approved about six months into of the launch of the currently $2.75-billion program.
Projects funded by the UBF, the Connecting British Columbia program along with other public and private investments, will help connect at least 98 per cent of Canadians to high-speed Internet by the year 2026 and will hopefully achieve the national target of 100 per cent connectivity when 2030 comes around.
