The province is reducing the interval between doses of COVID-19 vaccines to 28 days from 49 amid outbreaks of the virus in pockets across B-C.
Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says notices will be sent out to about 170-thousand people in the coming days asking them to move up their second dose appointments.
Henry says the change is aimed at increasing community protection in current hot spots where people face increased risk of contracting COVID-19.
She says the optimal interval between vaccine doses remains six to 10 weeks and those outside of hot spots or not in risky jobs may want to continue waiting beyond 28 days.
