The cost of living in Canada edged down to 3.1 per cent in June — a full-half-point lower than the decade-high of 3.6 per cent in May.
But Statistics Canada cautions that June’s decline might have more to do with the ongoing recovery from last year’s collapse in prices for goods such as gasoline.
May’s inflation rate appears ultra high because gas was almost 50 per cent more expensive than it was in May 2020 — while June’s inflation rate seems more modest because gas prices had started to recover by the same period last year, limiting the year-over-year hike to 32 per cent last month.
Stats Canada says excluding gasoline prices, Canada’s annual rate of inflation would have been 2.2 per cent in June — a rate reflected in B-C where the cost of living was pegged at 2.4 per cent, down from 2.7 per cent in May.
this it way off i’d say, they missed a few to do the survey.
