Large parts of central and east-central B-C — including the parched and fire-ravaged Cariboo region — are under severe thunderstorm watches.
Environment Canada says — along with the Cariboo — watches cover the Peace and Prince George regions as well as the Williston and Yellowhead areas near the B-C-Alberta boundary.
Strong, gusty winds, large hail and heavy rain could all accompany the lightning, which the weather office says will continue until sometime in the afternoon.
Of the nearly 300 active fires currently burning in B-C, the wildfire service says nearly 69 per cent have been caused by lightning.
