Highway 97 has recently had both of it’s directions close between Big Bar Lake Road and Montessa Drive due to the Flat Lake wildfire, which has now expanded to 2,000 hectares.
According to DriveBC, for location reference on where the closure is in effect, is from seven KM north of Clinton to 17 KM north of 70 Mile. Limited visibility because of smoke is also being reported.
The southern alternate route is via Highway 24 to Highway 5, while those headed north should take Highway 1 to Hwy 5.
The Flat Lake fire, which is now referred to as a “fire of note” is located 27 kilometres southwest of 100 Mile and west of Flat Lake. It was discovered on July 8 and the cause of the fire is suspected to be lightning.
