Environment Canada has issued a special air quality statement for both Cariboo North and Cariboo South mainly due to the ongoing wildfire situation in the province.
The smoky skies bulletin was issued today at 12:22 pm, for towns that include Williams Lake, 100 Mile House and Quesnel, as several regions in the B.C. Interior are already being impacted or are very likely to be impacted by smoke from the wildfires over the next 24 to 48 hours.
Smoke is already widespread throughout the southern Interior of BC, and Environment Canada has noted that the smoke may remain aloft, the main sources of which seem to be both the Cutoff Creek and Chilako fires in Central B.C. over the next 24 hours.
Environment Canada has also noted that smoky skies may cause increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath. Children, seniors and those with cardiovascular or lung conditions, such as asthma, are especially at risk.
