A First Nations leader near Lytton, B-C, says he’s willing to do what’s necessary to stop rail companies running through the community.
Chief Matt Pasco, chairman of the Nlaka’pamux Nation Tribal Council says the area is tinder-dry and there should be a pause on rail traffic.
Pasco said both the premier’s office and federal Indigenous Services Minister Marc Miller have been contacted with his concerns.
Pasco hopes dialogue with the involved parties will result in a halt, but says he is also willing to use necessary measures for his community’s safety and has extended an invitation to others to stand in solidarity.
The RCMP continue to investigate the cause of the fire which is associated with two deaths and are treating the area as a crime scene.
Premier John Horgan toured the devastation in Lytton on Tuesday saying he was moved by the experience. Horgan also said he’s confident they can find a way forward and added that CN and CP representatives will review the damage that’s been done in the community and the site has been secured by those who are doing the investigations.
