While investigators sift through the ashes of what was once St. Paul’s Anglican church in Gitwangak, they have yet to draw any conclusions…villagers however, seem to have drawn their own conclusions.
RCMP are treating the two fires as suspicious, but have yet to say if the fires were a case of arson…villagers say they believe they were.
Chief Councillor Sandra Larin notes the church has been a part of the community for a 100 years and was built by the elders. It plays a large role within the community. Larin isn’t coming down on one side or the other over the fires cause, but she did note emotions are running high within the community and everyone seems to have drawn the same conclusion…both fires are related.
She also added that the experts are working on coming up with the answer so, at this point she isn’t going to comment on the matter.
Pictures have been updated to the correct church.
