The Agriculture Ministry is urging ranchers and livestock operators to register with a program that could help save the lives of animals in wildfire evacuation zones.
An unprecedented heat wave that has smashed Canada’s high-temperature records means the risk of wildfires is extremely high around the province.
The ministry says the premises I-D program helped about 200 ranchers save their animals during a devastating wildfire season four years ago.
Ranchers with an I-D number can be given notice of approaching extreme weather events and use their number to arrange to check on their animals in areas under an evacuation order.
