A burning ban in the city of Terrace has gone into effect as of noon today in order to help reduce the likelihood of human-caused wildfires.
This ban mainly applies to fires used for land clearing and does not include small campfires or fire pits for cooking food.
In Terrace’s city limits, fire pits in the backyard are only permitted for the purpose of cooking food and must be contained within a non-combustible pit made of cement, brick, or metal, and it cannot be more than 3 feet in diameter.
Only cut wood, seasoned wood or charcoal can be burned; yard waste burning is not permitted at any time for any reason. Small propane fire pits are also permitted. Campfires are permitted at Ferry Island campsites.
The ban also has all current burn permits in Terrace being cancelled and no new permits will be issued. The ban will remain in effect until of Oct 15th of this year or until the public is told otherwise.
