David Lametti, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada announced yesterday the appointment of Leonard Marchand as the Justice of Appeal of the Court of Appeal for British Columbia.
Marchand will be replacing Justice H.M. Groberman who was elected to become a supernumerary judge. Justice Marchand was appointed to the supreme Court of B.C. in 2017. He is a member of the Okanagan Indian Band and grew up in Kamloops. He went to law school at the University of Victoria in 1991 and graduated in 1994.
At the time of his appointment Marchand was a judge of the Provincial Court of B.C., where he served from 2013 to 2017. Before that, he practised law at Fulton and Company LLP in Kamloops from 1995 to 2013. His focus during his practicing days was on liability of public authorities. He has appeared before all levels of court and many administrative tribunals.
