Prince George RCMP have begun increasing their focus targeting those responsible for street level drug trafficking and the associated violence.
Police have been collaborating with partner agencies such as the Uniformed Gang Enforcement Team in an effort to curb violence in the city. One thing police have noted is the increase in firearms seized during this enforcement.
RCMP seized a handgun during a robbery investigation at a residence on the 1600 block of 11th Ave. RCMP also seized an air gun during a complaint of non-compliance at the Ramada Hotel at 444 George St. Police also found large quantities of ammunition stashed in the hotel room. In a media release RCMP say, ‘it is nearly impossible for police to determine that it’s an air gun at first glance.’
RCMP also seized a loaded 5.56 semi-automatic rifle and a sawed-off shotgun after locating a prolific offender driving a stolen vehicle. Members of the Prince George RCMP Downtown Safety Unit executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act investigation at a residence on the 1400 block of Milburn Avenue. Resulting in the seizure of loaded revolvers, later found to be a BB gun off a person at that location. Various forms of ammunition for firearms other than the BB gun were also located.
RCMP are reminding firearm owners to lock up their items in a secure place.
