At 9:40 a.m. on February 2, RCMP received a report of a robbery at the Shoppers Drug mart at 3055 Massey Dr. Witnesses said that a male and a female left the business with a basket full of items. When a security guard confronted the male suspect he then brandished a hatchet. He then left the area with the female, crossing Highway 97 and leaving the shopping complex.
Within 10 minutes of the report police had the male suspect in custody. Shortly after the female suspect was apprehended. A Police Dog Services team helped locate the males discarded hatchet.
Police are recommending charges of robbery and resisting arrest to the B.C. Prosecution Service. The suspect was also breaching two of his court ordered conditions. Police released the female without charges.
The case still remains under investigation.
