The Barkerville Highway was shutdown for several hours while police investigated a pedestrian accident that resulted in the death of a pedestrian.
On January 12, shortly after 7:00 p.m., the Quesnel RCMP responded to single vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. A privately owned sand truck was traveling east on the Barkerville Highway and struck a pedestrian who was walking eastbound near Drummond Road. The female was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a statement, Sgt. Richard Weseen, of the Quesnel RCMP said, “At the time of the accident, the roads were wet due to a light rain and there was no artificial lighting. Witnesses reported that they had to swerve to avoid the female just prior to the collision.”
The highway was detoured for approximately four hours while police completed their investigation. The driver of the truck was not injured, speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the incident.
