This is taking place to reduce the chance of wildfires happening in the area. The burning will take place from mid-September until the end of October. This will be done by the B.C. Wildfire Service in conjunction with the Forest Enhancement Society of B.C.
The area the burn will be taking place is roughly 7.5 km southwest of Houston between Buck Flats Rd. and Morice Forest Service Rd. Theres been roughly 230 hectares sectioned off into ten separate parcels of land.
The use of prescribed burning will remove residual slash left-over after harvesting and reduce fuel load that, in the event of a wildfire could lead to more intense fire behaviour. The long-term goal for the project is to promote a stand conversion from coniferous trees to deciduous while reducing the availability of fire fuels.
