B.C. is sending 200 firefighters to Oregon to help fight the wildfires blazing in the states.
A joint statement from the premier’s office and the Ministry of Forests says the firefights are being send to Redmon, Ore. The statement goes on to say that B.C. is in contact with Oregon and Washington about the potential to send 200 additional personnel in the coming days and weeks.
Due to the challenges posed by Covid-19 firefighters and staff will be taking extraordinary precautions to safeguard the health of everyone participating in the deployment, both during their time in the states and when they return to Canada.
B.C. Wildfire Service personnel will remain within their own “bubble” and conduct their firefighting operations separately from American firefighters, as coordinated by the U.S. Forest Service and other relevant authorities. Sufficient personnel remain in the province to respond appropriately to any fire activity in B.C., considering the current and forecasted fire situation.
