Pollution from wildfires in the western part of the United States has made its way into some regions in B.C.’s Interior Region.
Interior Health has said in a press release that symptoms from pre-existing respiratory conditions could worsen from the smoke. People could experience, difficulty breathing, chest pain and discomfort, coughing, irritated eyes, throat and nose.
The smoke can also worsen cardiac disease. If wildfire smoke is triggering symptoms individuals are advised to take medications as prescribed and use a rescue inhaler if it was prescribed. If you are near the fires where smoke or particulates are significant, or the smoke is making you sick, consider leaving the area until the air is clear again.
People are advised to stay indoors as much as possible and close windows.
