The BC Assembly of First Nations has announced that its upcoming election will be held online.
The news came from a Special Chief’s Assembly today. The meeting was aimed at addressing the changes needed for the upcoming election for Regional Chief, 2 Board of Directors and 1 Female Youth Representative scheduled for Nov. 17 and 18.
BCAFN Regional Chief Terry Teegee says, “since face-to-face meetings are unlikely to happen any time soon, it’s essential that the BC Assembly of First Nations gets our electoral system right to respond to these challenging times.”
During the meeting, First Nations leadership from across B.C. reviewed details of the proposed changes, including security measures for online voting and approved the proposed regulations.
