A joint provincial and federal investment through the British Columbia Salmon Restoration and Innovation Fund (BCSRIF) is providing over $ 1.2 million to two projects in the Northwest. These projects include, The Gitanyow Fisheries Authority which will receive $867,020 over five years and The Skeena Fisheries Commission which is set to receive $400,000 over four years.
There are a total of 7 projects for salmon research and restoration that will a total of approximately $3 million in funding.
Doug Donaldson Stikine MLA says, “Supporting B.C.’s wild salmon is critical, and this investment will help research and enhance populations here in the Northwest.” He goes on to say that salmon are vital for the people in B.C.
The BC NDP Government has committed $42.85 million over five years to the BCSRIF, as well as an additional one-time investment of $5 million for the Pacific Salmon Endowment Fund.
