Early this morning a northbound car hauler caught fire on Highway 97 at Picard Road near Alexandria. Once the fire started, the driver managed to disconnect his truck from the trailer but the trailer with four vehicles on it, continued to burn. The fire then spread to the grass on both sides of the highway.
A fire crew from McLeese Lake went to the scene and extinguished the fires. “The investigation into the fire is still ongoing, but preliminary findings are pointing toward a mechanical malfunction was involved” said Sgt. Richard Weseen.
The highway was closed for roughly two hours but is open to single lane traffic.
