Terrace RCMP will be stepping up speed enforcement as students head back to class.
Mounties will be running radar in school zones throughout Terrace and Thornhill, reminding driveres to slow down and pay attention.
The detachment says it’s important for drivers to put away distractions away give themselves time to respond to unexpected circumstances.
The fine for speeding in school zones or playground zones ranges from $196-$253, failing to yield to a pedestrian is $167, and failing to stop fro a school bus will cost you $368.
School zones have a 30 km/hr limit every school day from 8 am to 5 pm. Playground speed limits are also 30 km/hr from dawn to dusk, year round.
Police are also reminding pedestrians to make themselves visible and make eye contact with drivers before crossing the street.
