RCMP say a man is facing two counts of attempted murder for an incident at a bridge near Williams Lake.
The Rudy Johnson Bridge over the Fraser River was closed for several hours Friday while police investigated, although few details about what happened have been released.
While officers were following up on the bridge investigation, someone spotted a vehicle on Highway 97 that may have been connected to a homicide three days earlier. After a brief police chase, RCMP arrested three people near Airport Road.
Two people were released while Jayson Gilbert remains in custody and has been charged with two counts of attempted murder for the bridge incident.
RCMP say there is also a missing persons case connected with the incident at the bridge. Investigators are trying to locate Branton Regner. Anyone with information about where he is should contact Williams Lake RCMP.
Mounties say no charges have been laid in connection with August 6th homicide at a Mackenzie Avenue home that saw a 43-year-old man shot to death, but investigators say that the two cases may be linked.
“These remain active investigations for the Williams Lake RCMP and North District Major Crime Unit,” says Inspector Jeff Pelley, Officer in Charge of the Williams Lake RCMP in a news release. “It is important that any potential witnesses, or people that may have information about these incidents, contact the police.”
Anyone with information should contact the Williams Lake RCMP at 250- 392-6211 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800 222-8477.
